Notice to Employees

Welcome to EPS. The world of special events is a fast paced, often crazy business that we hope you'll enjoy as much as we do. The government requires you to fill out several forms, and us to see certain documents before we can hire you. We promise to make this a quick and painless as we can.

Paychecks:

Our pay period is Thursday through Wednesday. Checks will be in the mail by the following Monday. If you need to pick up your paycheck, you must do so on the Monday it comes out, between 9 am and 4 pm, generally at the Pier 45 office (but it never hurts to check to see where the office trailers are scheduled to be on Mondays). If someone else is picking up your paycheck, we need to know in advance, and you must give written and signed permission. You also may be asked to show ID if the person handing out paychecks is not your long time pal since preschool. Michelle Kilday writes the paychecks, if you discover a discrepancy, she will be happy to discuss it with you.

Time Cards:

Time cards must be filled in at the beginning and end of each shift, as well as for meal breaks. Our staff psychic lost her crystal ball, so we cannot come up with your hours if they are not written down. Time cards must be completed each day you work, and must include a total of the time worked on each different event or job number. Your supervisor is keeper of the time cards. On large events time keeping will be handled using the bar coded id cards. Everyone, including supervisors, must be sure to sign in and out through the scheduling system on show days.

Scheduling:

Staffing is handled by four different EPS groups. One group sets the schedule based on the needs of the show. The second group fills the schedules with people. This is usually Michelle Deem and Riki Juster. The third group handles day of event activities such as time keeping, and is run by Michelle Kilday. Placement is the last group and this season is being performed by Riki Juster and Bobby Garay.

Shifts are filled by seniority, and by job skills. Preference is given to those team members who use the EPS on-line scheduling system.

You are expected to arrive at the job site in time to park, visit the restrooms, etc. and be ready with tool or whatever in hand at your start time. With few exceptions, you will not be on the clock before your start time. One last thing, you should eat before you arrive, even if it's cold pizza, because it will be several hours before your meal break. You are responsible for knowing Laurel's top 10 list of EPS do's and don'ts.

Sometimes the needs of the event require us to change already confirmed shifts. We will give you at least 24 hours notice of any shift changes.

The "Robert Reetz Rule": You must be on time for every call. For those distant events that require some driving time, you must leave yourself enough time to have 2 flat tires and still be on time for your scheduled call.

Many of our events have relatively small crews, and each scheduled person is really needed. You must give us 24 hours notice if you will not be able to fill a shift you have already confirmed. If you do not show up for a scheduled shift that you have already confirmed, we will not hire you for other events. There is no grace period for "no shows".

All Area Supervisors and Project Managers, are expected to attend weekly operations meetings, usually held on Monday mornings at 11:00 am (yes, even if you did work 72 hours straight over the weekend!).

One other thing, this is a drug and alcohol free workplace. If you are under the influence while on the job, you will be terminated.

Welcome Aboard,

Andy, Michelle & Company
